Airport Rehab Clinic offers concussion management as part of our comprehensive physiotherapy treatment services. This form of treatment is for patients, who have experienced a recent concussion and are still having difficulty with balancing or are having dizzy spells.
Concussion management utilizes a special form of physiotherapy called vestibular therapy. This form of therapy focuses on the vestibular system and also helps in identifying the causes for balancing and dizziness after a concussion.
The vestibular system consists of the structures that make up the inner ear and the nerves and other connections to the eye and brain. Moreover the objective of concussion management is to develop an effective treatment, based on your specific needs to help alleviate dizziness and improve balance.
If you have problems with vertigo or frequent dizzy spells, concussion management treatments can be beneficial. Vertigo and dizziness are often associated with the vestibular system and some form of dysfunction within this system.
If you have seen your primary care physician and they have performed a CT scan and MRI that produced negative results, or referred you to a specialist that informed you there was little they could do, then you should get a second opinion at Airport Rehab Clinic.
Even if your physician prescribed medications to help, this does not treat the primary cause for your condition. At Airport Rehab Clinic, our physiotherapists identify the root cause for your dizziness, vertigo, or balance issues. Treating the root cause addresses the primary issue while helping improve your condition.
Vestibular rehab therapy involves various forms of treatments, along with education. Also it is essential to keep in mind each person’s symptoms and root causes can and do vary. At Airport Rehab Clinic, we carefully perform a detailed examination to determine the source of your symptoms.
After you examination, a personalized treatment plan is developed. This treatment plan could include one or more of the following:
Keep in mind this is just a few of the possible treatments that could be prescribed and there could be others, based upon your specific needs.
In several cases, the cause for symptoms is diagnosed as a condition called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This condition is where there is a buildup of calcium carbonate crystals within the inner ear.
One potential treatment to remedy BPPV is Epley treatment, which is performed by an experienced physiotherapist. There are also other forms of treatments and therapies that can be used along with Epley. Again, it will largely depend upon the patient’s own individual assessment of their condition to determine the most effective forms of concussion management treatments.
Aside from your initial consultation and examination, most patients report improvements within two to three visit. To learn more about concussion management treatments or to schedule an appointment, please feel free to contact Airport Rehab Clinic directly today!
